Dr Rachel Melsom  UK Director - Tobacco Free Portfolios

Rachel completed her first degree in Genetics at University College London in 1987   following   which   she   pursued   an   extensive   career   in   advertising, commercial media negotiations, founded an intellectual property consultancy, and developed interactive media programming for production in the USA.  In 2008 she retrained as a Doctor, with a desire to improve  clinicians’ understanding  of  the  financial  implications of delivery  of excellent  clinical  care;  the  need  to  integrate  this  understanding  into  cost effective  care  delivery  models,  including  managing  both  the  care  and  the precipitating factors of disease.  Rachel has a particular interest in palliative care and provision of comprehensive care for the elderly in the community. Tobacco Free Portfolios focuses on the medical and societal impact of continued investment in the Tobacco Industry, addressing the effect of the product and the wider cost of smoking to society, encouraging Tobacco Free Investment. Rachel currently practices part time in the Department of Medicine for the Elderly (DoME) at Worthing Hospital in Sussex.   Worthing was one of only three acute trusts in the UK awarded the highest possible ‘Outstanding’ rating in their recent CQC inspection. Rachel is Founder and Director of Medical Matrix Consulting Ltd and has been advising independent medical businesses on company structure, commercial development, partnership development, and business growth, since 2010. Client Ascot Rehabilitation Ltd has just received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2017- International Trade. Rachel has a number of charitable interests including participating  as  a  Business  Leader  for  Founders  4  Schools,  a  charity  set  up  by  Sherry  Coutu, CBE,  to  improve  the  uptake of STEM subjects and increase employability  of  school leavers.
