Norman Braithwaite  Chairman of Trustees – Lafarge UK Pensions

Norman was educated at Gordonstoun and Cambridge. He joined what was then Duncan C Fraser & Co in 1968, qualified as an actuary in 1971 and was made a partner in 1972. When Mercer bought Fraser in 1986 he became a director of the UK board of Mercer Fraser. He became a partner in Bacon & Woodrow in 1991 where he stayed until he retired in 1999. Along the way he helped found the Manchester Financial and Professional Forum, served as Chairman of the Strategy Committee of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, served on the Council of the PMI and was its President in 1997 – 99. He was appointed Chairman of Trustees of the Mineworkers pension scheme in 2000 and subsequently picked up 8 other trusteeships and two pilot’s licences. He has been reducing his portfolio over the last few years and is now down to 3 trustee appointments.
