SPS Virtual Private Market Investors’ Annual Conference

December 7, 2021

This conference will provide an update on topical issues affecting private market investments, examining the challenges facing the sector and factors that institutional investors, including pension funds and family offices should consider when investing. We aim to incorporate discussion of practical issues such as fees, transparency, liquidity, benchmarking, regulation, IT developments, ESG as well as analysis of whether and how the inclusion of private markets strategies in portfolios before the COVID pandemic helped or hindered schemes and if there are lessons to be learned.

This will now be an online conference with timings:

What a difference a Year Makes

This has been an incredible 12 months for private asset valuations, particularly VC. What impact has this had on vintage year returns? For instance, the significant upward revisions go way back to funds raised in 2010, 11, 12 especially on the VC front. What does this mean for VC and private asset markets going forward?

Impact Investing - The Climate Emergency

We will discuss how DB and DC pension portfolios and long-term savings can be utilised in response to the climate emergency, to help companies to be more sustainable and ultimately for our society and wider economy to achieve net zero carbon.  It is this ‘decarbonisation’ of our environment that presents one of the greatest challenges but also one of the greatest thematic investment opportunities in coming years.  It sits across private markets – private equity, private debt and real assets – where we will share examples of how this can be implemented for institutional investors in practice.

Weathering the Storm with Direct Lending. Private Debt - An ‘All-Weather’ Asset Class?

Direct lending can provide opportunities in all parts of the cycle. Despite the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis, we believe that the asset class, and the lower-middle market in particular, continues to provide the potential for attractive risk adjusted returns to pension investors. Especially, due to generally long-dated liabilities and limited liquidity requirements the pension sector is able to benefit from the illiquidity premium of the direct lending asset class.

NAV Lending: a growing opportunity for private debt investors

Net Asset Value (NAV) lending is a fast-growing strategy within the Private Debt asset class. We examine the factors behind this growth, including the reasons why the private equity industry is increasingly using this type of finance, and the differentiated proposition for investors versus other Private Debt allocations.
