Accessing low volatility returns from private equity

  • Innovation has long been part of the private equity and private debt industries, and the recent growth of portfolio-based finance is continuing that trend.

  • Portfolio finance is based on the net asset value of diversified private equity portfolios, and repaid from cash flows which arise from the underlying companies

  • Demand for this type of finance from private equity managers is accelerating, as they see it as a flexible tool with which to actively manage their funds

  • At the same time, investors are increasingly attracted by the strong low-volatility returns which can be generated from transactions which are usually bilaterally negotiated and offer stronger downside protection compared to most traditional private debt strategies.

Bridging the Financing Gap: The Asia-Pacific Private Debt Opportunity for Pension Funds

  • With significantly reduced competition from bank financing in various Asia-Pacific jurisdictions, there may now be an opportunity for pension investors to benefit.

  • In our view, private debt is ideally positioned to provide growth capital to middle-market companies.

  • Private debt as an asset class is already well-established in the United States and Europe. Asia, on the other hand, is not a crowded market and presents an opportunity for further penetration.
