Richard is a risk management and investment consultant in Mercer’s Strategic Solutions Group. In this role, he specialises in providing strategic investment and funding advice to trustees and sponsors of DB and DC pension schemes. This advice ranges from journey planning and liability hedging strategies, to quantifying risk through modelling and supporting schemes through complex risk management transactions. He has previously led Mercer’s bulk annuity team. Today, Richard leads Mercer’s growing pension risk management team and is responsible for Mercer’s risk management proposition for clients – he also acts as risk manager to a number of large and complex pension schemes. Prior to joining Mercer, he worked as an actuary for WTW, providing liability calculations and funding advice to trustees.

Richard is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and holds the PRMIA Professional Risk Manager qualification, as well as a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence and a BA Mod. in Theoretical Physics. He is an active member of the Pension Committees of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE), where he has contributed to working groups on pension risk management and the IORP Directive.
