Session 2: The Great Transition: Rebuilding portfolios under WTP and changing role for illiquid assets in portfolios

Geopolitical tensions, asset class volatility and ongoing conflict have unsettled the macro landscape in 2026 — with inflation risks and stagflation firmly back in the conversation. We cut through the noise and give insights into what's driving markets, what it means for your portfolio, and where the risks and opportunities lie heading towards the end of 2026, into 2027 and beyond.

Key themes:
•    A macro and micro-outlook of inflation (and interest rates) and its implications for Assets and Liabilities
•    How to invest in a persistent inflationary environment?
•    Given the uncertainty on inflation, can exposure to real assets provide any protection against rising inflation?
•    How should you evaluate the geographical exposures of your portfolio, especially to the US?
•    Is global diversification still delivering — or are funds being pushed toward a home bias they never wanted?
•    Should scenario planning play a more important role in setting strategic asset allocation?

As the Dutch pension transition moves from theory into execution, funds face a fundamental question: what does a WTP-ready portfolio actually look like — and where do private markets fit? With liability-matching giving way to lifecycle investing, the strategic case for illiquid assets is being rebuilt from scratch.

Key themes:
•   Solidarity vs flexible contract — how does your contract choice shape the size and composition of your private markets book?
•    The 2027 pressure test — 50+ funds transitioning simultaneously, many sharing infrastructure. How will this impact your own strategy and also markets more systemically?
•    From ALM to lifecycle — as DC mechanics replace liability-driven investing, how does the role of illiquidity and long-horizon assets change across age cohorts?
•    Which private asset classes make sense in WTP? — infrastructure, private credit, real assets, private equity: fit-for-purpose by lifecycle stage and liquidity profile
•    The valuation transparency problem of illiquid assets — managers marking their own books: how should Dutch funds govern this?

Session 3: The Great Transition: Rebuilding portfolios under WTP and changing role for illiquid assets in portfolios

Rethinking sustainability in an era of geopolitical conflict, regulatory divergence and competing stakeholder demands.

Key themes:
•   As European security needs intensify, can excluding defence stocks remain a credible position?
•    The energy transition runs on materials that are anything but clean to extract. How do you integrate commodities into ESG without compromising its integrity?
•    With energy security concerns and geopolitical shocks slowing decarbonisation, are your Net Zero commitments still credible?
•    As the US retreats from ESG and Europe doubles down on SFDR and CSRD, how do you manage a coherent strategy across two divergent regulatory environments?
•    How do you balance fiduciary duty, regulatory compliance and genuine impact — without losing credibility with beneficiaries or regulators?

Session 4: AI Revolution: Investment Opportunities, Operational Transformation and Emerging Risks

With AI developments moving at breakneck speed, this creates both urgent portfolio questions and significant opportunities for Dutch Pension Funds. This session examines where AI is creating investable value, where it is creating hidden risk, and what the scale of AI infrastructure financing means for fixed income allocations.

Key themes:
•   Are markets pricing AI's potential accurately or running ahead of fundamentals?
•    Which industries are structurally advantaged by AI — and which face displacement? How should Dutch funds position their listed equity allocations?
•    Where does AI feature in private equity and venture portfolios — and is valuation discipline sufficient?
•    With AI companies increasingly financing via debt rather than equity, what are the implications for credit dynamics, spreads and fixed income risk?
•    How have leading funds adjusted allocations in response to AI, and what have been the measurable outcomes?
